The summer of 2016 is here along with our 40th Anniversary Celebration! That’s right. Living Hope will turn 40 this summer and we are making plans to look back and look forward and bring glory, praise and honor to God for all that He has done, all that He is doing, and all that we are praying He will do.

Living Hope is a unique church. Like all local churches, we have a unique purpose in God’s eternal Kingdom. It is not an accident that we are who we are where we are doing what we do the way we do it. God has worked and is working to make us into a people that He can use for His eternal purpose. By the grace of God we are what is described in 1 Peter 1:3–5:

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, who by God’s power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.”

This summer we are going to focus on what makes us Living Hope. Our uniqueness is driven by what we believe and what it is we are called to do. During the month of June, we will finish the series “Map Out Your Faith” that we began in May to remember what we believe. In July we will renew our sense of purpose as we walk through the series “Map Out Your Decisions,” as we study Joshua 1.

During the month of June,  be sure and read through our Articles of Faith. The series of sermons in June are based upon our Articles of Faith and it is vital that each of us not only understands them, but be able to articulate them and defend them. Every Sunday we are looking at one or more of the Articles and providing Biblical insight and practical steps for how we can live what we believe.

The month of July will culminate with a day of Celebration on Sunday, July 31st. We will have a fun-filled evening of food and fellowship as a family of faith. Leading up to that big day, we will take time every Sunday and look back at how God has blessed Living Hope and look forward at the vision God has given to us. These Sundays will be insightful and inspirational. Please be sure and plan to be in attendance.

One last thing I want to mention is that we need to be praying and preparing to join God in reaching BG. We live in a city where the majority of the people living among us do not gather on Sunday mornings with a church family to worship the One True God in Spirit and Truth.

Like never before, we must be making disciples of Jesus, as Jesus commanded us in Matthew 28:19-20. Our vision is to live hopeful and be helpful to make disciples. We must be actively praying and pursuing people so that we can lead them to anchor their life and hope in Jesus and then help them be able to walk the Disicple’s Pathway of worship, connect, serve, equip, and multiply.

This fall, this vision to reach BG will be brought into focus. I am asking you to pray and to begin to prepare to be used by God to lead more people to anchor their life and hope in Jesus.
