My hope is that those that are struggling in life will find strength in the truth that God is greater than their biggest need.

This month, we will continue to focus on Good News! The Good News (or Gospel) is that God has not abandoned us in our broken world. The world is not as it should be. Sin has entered the world through humanity and our sin is creating suffering, pain, and tragedy day after day. God became one of us to save us. By grace through faith in Christ alone, we can be forgiven of our sin, given a new life in Christ, and led by God’s Spirit in grace and truth.

In God’s grace and truth, disciples of Jesus will discover that “God is Greater” than any challenge we will ever face. The problem is that we are prone to wander and to forget how awesome God is. When we take our eyes off of God, like Elijah did in 1 Kings 19, we become saddened and even depressed. We doubt God and ourselves. We throw pity parties and seek solace in isolation. God is gracious. He calls us out of our despair and into the hope of the Gospel. This month we will see how God does that and how “God is Greater!”

This month is a perfect time to reach out to and invite family and friends that are overwhelmed with life, dealing with seasonal depression, and finding it hard to get a handle on life. God has provided us with the Hope Center for Biblical Counseling. As we study 1 Kings this month, our counselors are preparing for the many calls and hours of counseling that will be needed by our congregation and people that we invite from our community. This series is going to illuminate hurts we all have. The counseling center is a ministry of Living Hope that will help people find hope when they are hurting. If you or someone you know is in need of counseling, please go to the website and click on the “counsel” tab and fill out the form. Or call (270) 282-2808 to set up an appointment.

Although our preaching series on Daniel is finished, we will continue to focus on prayer. Each week we will have a specific daily prayer focus. We will also participate in our 2nd church wide fast on Thursday, February 8. Our scripture focus will be 1 Timothy 2:8. “I desire then that in every place the men should pray, lifting holy hands without anger or quarreling.” We will be praying that Living Hope will be a people of prayer, will be a people of authentic worship, and a people of peace.
